Its best to do “First things First – Learn!”

Since my goal is to create this blog on learning to digitally paint, I should make sure I know how to do that to the best of my own ability.

I’ve chosen to utilize Corel Painter 2023 software and my Wacom tablet and pen for my digital painting. I must admit, as a trained Information Technoloogy person who has loved and learned many different types of software, Corel Painter was one of the toughtest I’ve learned to use. I quickly found out that the Painter program had concepts I did not pick up in my usual easy fashion. I decided I would have to learn hands on from another person to get started with this program.

I’ve now used Corel Painter software for many years now, starting with Painter version 7 and now I’m using version 2023. I first learned to use that older version of Painter from taking hands on classes with Marilyn Sholin in her teaching studio in Ashville North Carolina. Over a period of several years I took various classes and seminars from Marilyn and learned a lot from her while enjoying her teaching techniques and joy in her art creations.

While I had my photography studio I also took several hands on classes from other teachers online and found several to learn from, including Darrel Chitty, an awesome student of the traditional painting masters and teacher of how he uses Corel Painter software and a digital tablet to create his wonderful art creations for his “Tomorrow’s Masters Group”.

Other Corel Painter Masters I learned from were Karen Sperling, Helen Yancy, Jeremy Sutton (a very cool man and teacher). I’ve taken several online classes from Karen Bonaker through her digital painting academy which offers learning from several different Painter Masters. And I’ve been a member of Aaron Rutten’s Patreon group for several years.

I’m currently taking Aaron Rutten’s new Painter 2023 training course and loving all the detail he’s added to this course.
